2010 - CHARITY QUILT

"After the Storm"
100 % of the proceeds will benefit "NAMI"

Each year, the members of the WPQG produce a bed sized quilt and sell opportunity tickets to the public, to raise money for a local Charity.  There are many opportunities to view the quilt and purchase tickets, when the quilt is displayed around community, at different events. One or two members are chosen, yearly, to coordinate this project and they enlist the help of  many of our guild members.  This is a two year commitment, as it takes one year to complete the quilt and another year to sell the 5,000 (plus) chances.  This beautiful quilt was coordinated by
David Strom and was  created by many hands of the WPQG membership.

Designer, David Strom's, statement:
Inspired by the Sunsets off the Pasco Coastline The center panel captures the moment just after the sun has dropped below the horizon. The prevailing winds push the storms onshore from west to east. In order to have a brilliant red sunset there must be clouds and the most brilliant are
just after the storm when the sun drops below the clouds and illuminates them from below.  The trees in silhouette represent the trees native to Pasco County, the Live Oak, Pine and Sabal Palms. The dead tree is reminiscent of the dead tree in the midst of the Mangroves at Green Key
County Park here in Pasco county.  That tree is one of the favorite lookouts for an osprey living in the area.  The foliage at the bottom is representative of the mangroves which inhabit much of our shoreline, living in the tidal marsh, the transition from dry land to sea. The borders of the quilt are the traditional Storm At Sea block colored to emphasize the star at the juncture of the blocks, symbolizing the clearing skies- "After the Storm".
The quilt is all custom dyed 100% cotton fabric. David Strom dyed all of the fabric for the quilt. The back is custom dyed 108" fabric also.  The batting is Quilter's Dream Midnight 100% polyester.
